Website visits

Loading pages necessarily sends connection information, such as your IP address, requested resource and browser information, to the hosting infrastructure. Hosting services may process technical logs for delivery, security and fault diagnosis. The website code does not install analytics, advertising trackers, third-party fonts or embedded social widgets. Images and other site resources are requested from this website’s own hosting.

The local message composer

Information entered into the Contact composer stays in the current page. The tool does not submit fields to a server or save drafts in local storage. Refreshing or leaving the page may discard the draft. Copying places the current output on your device’s clipboard; downloading creates a local text file. Your device, browser extensions, clipboard history and backup settings are outside our control.

If you subsequently send the text by email, the message is handled by your email provider and the receiving email service. Review the content and recipient before sending. Do not send sensitive health information, confidential building-security information or personal data about others unless genuinely necessary and lawful.

Correspondence and lawful basis

If you contact us, we receive the information you include, your email address and associated message metadata. We use it to review and respond to your enquiry, assess corrections, maintain appropriate records and protect the service. Our usual basis is legitimate interests in operating an editorial website and responding to correspondence. Legal obligations may require particular records to be retained or disclosed.

Sharing, security and retention

Hosting and email service providers may process information on our behalf. We do not sell correspondence or use it for unsolicited marketing. Information may be disclosed where lawfully required or necessary to establish, exercise or defend legal claims. Where a provider transfers personal information internationally, applicable data-protection safeguards are required.

Correspondence is kept only for as long as reasonably necessary for its purpose, related follow-up and applicable legal requirements. Relevant factors include whether an issue remains open, whether the record supports an editorial correction and whether a legal duty or dispute requires retention. No online service or email channel can guarantee absolute security.

Browser preferences

The optional preference control on the Cookies page stores a simple choice in local storage. It is not linked by this code to an account or visitor identifier. You can remove it using your browser’s site-data controls.

Your rights

Subject to applicable law, you may request access, correction, erasure, restriction or portability of your personal information and may object to processing based on legitimate interests. We may need proportionate information to verify a request. Where processing relies on consent, you may withdraw that consent without affecting earlier lawful processing.

You can complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office or another competent supervisory authority. Contacting us first can help resolve a concern but is not a condition of making a complaint.

External websites have their own privacy practices. We may update this notice when the service or relevant requirements change; the current notice is published on this page.
